The story
Overview
A rare post-war coachbuilt saloon with elegant, hand-crafted Hooper bodywork in a refined two-tone colour scheme. Ideal for classic shows, gentle touring or a curated collection. Powered by a 4.9-litre naturally aspirated straight-six driving the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.
History
First registered in February 1956 and with its fifth owner since May 2025. Reportedly restored in 1991, including paintwork and some retrim work. VSCC, Royal Automobile Club and Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club badges on the grille suggest a life in enthusiast hands.
Coachwork by Hooper
Hooper was a British coachbuilder founded in 1805, holding a Royal Warrant from 1830. Originally renowned for horse-drawn carriages, it became famous for its coachbuilt bodies on separate-chassis Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars.
Exterior & interior
Two-tone black and cream over a cream leather interior with real-wood veneer trim and beige carpets. 15-inch steel wheels with black and chrome hubcaps on Avon tyres.
Equipment
Twin front spotlights, three-spoke steering wheel, push-out front and rear quarter-light windows, rear picnic tables, inset Smiths gauges, heater, push-button HMV radio, reverse-hinged rear doors and retrofitted electric front windows. Supplied with the original owner’s handbook and a file of historical paperwork.
Condition
The car runs and drives but has been in storage and will need light recommissioning before returning to the road. Last MOT: 20 March 2012 at 82,814 miles, passed first time with no advisories. The odometer shows 83,106 miles (not warranted).
